Two days in Fes was all she needed to know she wanted to come back as soon as possible.

Jan returns this June with another group of writers and artists in tow. Each morning her writing and creativity workshops will take their inspiration from afternoon and evening concerts at the Fes Sacred Music Festival.

Jan is inviting artists and writers of all genres: poets, songsters, novelists, travel writers, visual artists, performers, photojournalists; anyone who is interested in exploring the relationship between sound and voice, story and song, composition and structure as well as other synergies between music, art and writing craft.

The morning workshops will take place on the terrace at Riad Rcif, a wonderfully restored former palace in the heart of the Fes medina. Participants can stay at Riad Rcif or choose the budget option to arrange their own accommodation.

If you want to join Jan’s retreat it is important to book asap. All info here:http://www.writersjourney.com.au/journeys/singing-up-story-in-fes/

recontres internationales Fez

Curator of the event Simon Edwards writes

In a world where it is very rare to find even hidden or secret places, photography can play a role of revealer.

This year, the Rencontres Internationales de la Photo of Fez reflects the need of the photographer to push the doors,  going further to discover the hidden side of things or beings.

Scarlett Coten, flamboyant personality, a European woman who landed the aircraft shoulder, a vision of Morocco unexpected – That the world of men.

Jean-Christophe Ballot –  after years of photographic trips around the world, Ballot looks through the city of Fez with the eyes of a poet. His work penetrates the intimacy of the medieval town and offers us a reflection on the connections that can maintain the image and writing.  Much like “Fez Invisible” by Omar Chennafi  who reveals the double identity of this mysterious city, with such a sober view of the street and such colorful doors once stepped into.

Finally, explore the creation of video art today wandering the streets of the medina is a way of linking history and modernity. Faced with the memory of places, the choice of videos made in the collection of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie illustrates the most current themes: the role of women in society, violent conflict or the human dream and an irrationality that sometimes arise in everyday life.
