Welcome Nissa Nissikawa, here to commence the new position of Artist in Resident Officer. As the C.V. partnership expands, the devotion within the arts and community also grows. Heightening the quality of support thus enhances the creative production and magnifies the exchange; from the projects of visiting artists and Sefrou’s community. We are thrilled to greet and extend knowledge to Nissa in this post.
As an artist who holds a wealth of cultural lineages (her mother is Japanese, her father is half-Norwegian and half-British: she was born in Canada), Nissa comes to bridge knowledge from these locations to communities in Morocco. She spent her formative years in the mountains of Japan focusing on ceramics and dance while supporting village festivals and traditional ceremonial practices.
From then, Nissa continued her path to London where she has been based for the past ten years. In 2015, she was invited by the American Language Centre in Tangier to hold a performance and workshop at the American Legation Museum with the musical poets Josephine Foster, Victor Hererro and Gyda Valtysdottir. This opened the gateway to her deep connection with North Africa.
Nissa has been involved in a great deal of venturesome art throughout her travels and is looking forward to continue this with the upcoming programmes at Culture Vultures a.k.a AIR Sefrou. She is pleased to be here, discovering the beautiful town of Sefrou for the first time.
