Calling female artists.

2 12 2010

Following a decision agreed in Copenhagen in 1911, International Women’s Day was officially honoured for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. More than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination.

The new millennium has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women’s and society’s thoughts about women’s equality and emancipation. And so the tone and nature of IWD has, for the past few years, moved from being a reminder about the negatives to a celebration of the positives. Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements.

Culture Vultures is an arts organization bases in and around the Fez region. It is the 4th consecutive year C.V will co-ordinate an IWD event.  Our aim is to  highlight women’s achievements, turn up the culture and entice the traditional into the now.  Fez’s weight in gold is it’s historic architecture and rich tapestry of spirituality, architecture and handicrafts.  C.V. invites you to contribute in  freshly pinning Fez on the map of contemporary culture activities in Morocco.

OOOOH, I know a crazy talented (as in CRAZYTALENTED) artist who really should submit to this. She’s been worked in mixed media for years and has had small, local exhibitions in her area but I really think she needs to get out there more as she incorporates some beautiful cross-cultural themes into her work. Will let her know about the submission deadline.

Hi, I was wondering if you would be interested in having a female dancer/performer living in Fez for the event. I offer regular hooping, double hooping, fire hooping, and light/glow hooping… all very unique, fun and inspiring. I would be willing to bring some extra hoops for the other ladies to try as well. In addition I will be submitting some paintings to the selection committee. Feel free to send me an email!
