Retrospective of painter André Elbaz

29 10 2010

The works of  André Elbaz will be exhibited in Casablanca from 02 November to 30 December 2010; those in Rabat from 09 November to 30 December 2010.

Elbaz had shown more than 250 works, spanning over half a century of a career dedicated to the visual arts. These works will allow the public to discover the internal consistency of the path of an artist who is without doubt one of the pioneers of modern Moroccan painting.

Nomadic artist, sculptor multidisciplinary explorer with committed clashes between screaming and silence, light and shadow, André Elbaz presents his rich and strong work, viscerally facing the Other.

In Rabat, he will present the work of youth and mature works (1955 – 1986), including collages, the first abstract paintings, the theme of “reversal of history”, and his work as “war artist.”

In Casablanca, a series of Eastern Cities and the Musicians will counterpoint to works that are very powerful such as “executed”, urns, lacerations, and anamorphic.

On the occasion of these two exhibitions, the book titled, “You’ll see in all colors …. The journey of a precursor of modern painting in Morocco “, the book includes the story of Andre Elbaz lived and experiences shared with other Moroccan artists.

This retrospective is certainly one of the strongest moments of school arts in Morocco.
