Magic and Mentalism that blows the mind.

Mystic Magic at Salon Empereur

Mystic Magic are a pair of Fez based showmen who have taught themselves the art of magic , mental trickery and mind blowing performance.  At the young age of 22 and 23, Ossama and Othman were first introduced to us via Café Clock before C.V. was born. The card trick that was the audition literally caused me to scream in amazement and a whole circus event was created around them. I, for one, didn’t sleep all night questioning how it is possible to achieve such live feats. Two years down the line and several shows later I have given up asking and merely sit back to be astounded.

Next week, May 7th, sees Mystic Magic again on top form at Salon Empereur. Don’t miss this show, even if your Moroccan Arabic is not up to scratch this will undoubtedly blow you away. Culture Vultures is proud to support this duo act and truly believes they will reach international status.

Tickets, at 149 dh,  can be purchased at Café Empereur, Café Clock or via C.V. on the following number 06 45 22 32 03.  Places, be warned, are limited.

Mysic Symbols – Kathak (कथक) performance

24 04 2010

Yona, Kathak performer.

This Sunday Culture Vultures presents an afternoon of Kathak (कथक) performance by Yona accompanied by Siross, two locally based artists. Kathak is on of the eight forms of Indian classical dance originated from northern India. This dance form traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient northern India, known as Kathaks, or storytellers. These bards, performing in village squares and temple courtyards, mostly specialized in recounting mythological and moral tales from the scriptures, and embellished their recitals with hand gestures and facial expressions. It was quintessential theatre, using instrumental and vocal music along with stylized gestures, to enliven the stories.

Yona, born and bought up in France, has studied a variety of musical instruments, dance forms and musical genres. She is attracted to modes of expression from different cultures. Folklore and world music playing an important role in Yona’s life. Having lived in India, Israel, and Jordan, Yona currently resides in Fez where she continues to practice Kathak dance and Indian vocals.

Siross will accompany Yona with the lute as his prefered instrument and percussion as a form of expression any Arabic musician can not resist. He debuted the music scene with the banjo and guitar. He is practiced in the flute and has contributed to Malhoun and Andalusian perfromances. Siross shows us his creative talents and diversity of ability in this classical hindu repertoire.

Flamenco co co..

16 04 2010

Andalucia

Of the many flamenco concerts put on by the Instituto Cervantes that C.V. has attended  they have all been impressive and charged. In commemoration of 20 th anniversary of Fez and Cordoba’s twin towning Cuadro Flamenco Cordobes, a Buleras/Fandango/Taranto group will offer a series of flamenco songs in fusion with an Andalous group from Morocco.  A Culture Vultures recommendation.
