Khenifra Rug Auction

Culture Vultures went over the mountain this weekend to research Khenifras rug auction and see if its worth the visit:; it certainly was.
The sale kicks off at mid afternoon. Rugs and cushions are displayed in the auction courtyard and then walked around each wholesalers unit with their latest bid on the lips of the auctioneers’ assistants. The event goes on until dusk, the prices are very reasonable and there is a wide range of carpets. The only challenge is to outbid a trader on a decent rug….although you know when you’ve paid a dirham too much!

Inspired by this happening ,C.V. is arranging a day trip to the region with the rug auction as the main occasion. Making the day what’s more eventful, the first stop will be at the springs of Ouaoumana for a tagine next to the waters edge before heading over to Khenifra town to rug bid.
Friday 23rd November. A full days trip costs a discounted rate of 350 dh per person including a tagine lunch, luxury transport and a carpet merchant fee to feed us rug tit bits and assist with any bidding.
To book a place on this excursion and rug room for your return please contact Jess at Culture Vultures on culture.vulture1@rocketmail.com. Places, as always, are limited.

A night at the movies (in Fez!).

Cinema Rex

Cinema Rex

Something greatly missed by many foreigners is the experience of watching a film on the big screen, in the dark, slouched in a red velvet chair. Unfortunately cinema in Morocco was something that went out of fashion as quickly as it came in. Last week Culture Vultures took a trip over to Rex cinema to see what its all about…and loved it.  Currently showing is the Fez shot film Mchaouchi . For those who wish to indulge in an old Moroccan tale and recognise many of the settings and props (that you may even own yourself) C.V. recommends this film and the venue.   Screenings are at 15 h,17;30 h and 21:15 h at an entrance fee of 20dh. Take your own refreshments and a friend.
