On October 3-4, 2009 The American Language Center, in partnership with Al Akhawayn University, the Ministry of Artisanat, Peace Corps, USAID and Culture Vultures, will host the Marche Maroc 2009 Craft and Culture Fair.
Artisans from all across Morocco will be participating in a Craft Fair representing a diverse selection of indigenous handicrafts.

Al Akhawayn University will be hosting a full day of business and marketing workshops for the participating artisans on Oct 2nd, preceding the Marche Maroc 2009 Craft Fair.

The Fez community is invited to attend this important weekend-long event to support the traditional handicrafts of Morocco, to interact directly with the artisans themselves, and support fair wages to these artisans. Products will be for sale at prix fixe.
The Craft Fair will run from 10am – 6pm Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4.

ALC, American Language Center and ALIF (Arabic Language Institute Fez) are pleased to launch Friends of ALC, a program that invites members of the public to join them in sharing ALC/ALIF’s rich cultural program.
The listings for the next trimester, that Friends of ALC are invited to, include a lecture series of a high calibre, a program of concerts, discussion groups, calligraphy courses and access to the soon to come study/culture center in Fez medina.
All of the above mentioned and more are offered to you by joining the membership of Friends of ALC at the one-time cost of 250 DH or 150 DH for students.
Join up before the weekend of the 3rd of October and you can benefit the chance to experience Mouloud El Meskaoui, the Errachidia based, top creative percussionist.

Art and the Environment (A ‘n E) – Fall/Winter 2009

Art and the Environment is a series of visual art based workshops aimed at children and parents in the Fez region. Led by professional artists and practitioners in the environment sector Culture Vultures (C.V.) has assembled a program that embraces an enhanced awareness and creative response to our surroundings.

Open to children aged 4 – 12 year old and their parents.
Places are limited and we encourage reservations so as not to be disappointed.
Parents are invited to join us free of charge.

Languages – Art for Drarri’s common language is creativity, we encourage speakers of any language to join our workshops.

Workshop 1 – Do you know your city? October 17/18th
Workshop 2 – Rubbish ! November
Workshop 3 – to be confirmed December
Workshop 4 – On the wall. January

Cost – 250 dh per workshop. 800 dh for full course of 4 workshops.

Artists Call-out ~ Bottle Fashion

Project Outline – Moroccan water carriers are kept cool in the summer by dressing them with old clothes and or scraps of material. This artists’ call-out requests the submission of designed water-bottle covers for a curated exhibition in Fez in the spring of 2010.

Glorify your old plastic bottle so that you are the latest gossip at the sakaia. Knit, stitch, crochet, collage, paper-mache or devise your own dressage material for your bottle fashion.

Artists/Designers
• This artists call-out is open to everyone, regardless of nationality, age or past experience. The artwork is what carries the weight.

Proposals
• Up to 5 submissions are accepted.
• All works must have been designed by the applicant/artists.
• All chosen art works must be available for exhibition for the spring of 2010 and delivered to American Language Center, Fez.
• Format of submission – a clear digital image in jpg format.
• Enclose a brief statement about the work and/or its context.
Max 150 words.

Deadline for submission – Dec 31st 2009. The selection committee will assemble in January of 2010 and all applicants will be notified by 1st of February 2010.
